James Phipps of Lawrence County, Indiana, Died 1914

The following obituary is as published as the Mitchell Daily Mail, Bedford, Lawrence County, Indiana, Tuesday, April 14, 1914, p. 3:

James Phipps died at his home on Dr. Freeland’s farm near White river Bedford bridge, Sunday afternoon and funeral at Wesley Chpel 2 p. m. Tuesday. Burial at Bass Cemetery. Mr. Phipps died of a complication of diseases and had been sick for the greater part of the winter.

Census reports show a James – perhaps the same individual – in Marion Township Township, Lawrence County, Indiana, who was born about 1863 (1880 census) in Indiana (1880 census), Nov 1865 in Kentucky (1900 census), or about 1864 in Kentucky (1910 census). His parents, as listed in the 1880 census, were Calvin and Hestine Phipps. His wife, accoding to the 1900 and 1910 censuses, was Florence.

According to a Family Search marriage abstract, he married her in 1885 in Lowrence County and her maiden name was Gaines.
